Slovak Mardi Gras

MG2016 200On Saturday February 6, 2016, Branch 63 of the Canadian Slovak League hosted the annual Fasiangy (Mardi Gras) dinner and dance party at the newly renovated St. Anthony's Soccer Hall on Preston Street in Ottawa. Approximately 130 guests attended the gala ball. The Slovak ambassador Andrej Droba and his wife Daniela and Czech ambassador Pavel Hrncir and his wife Veronika were special guests of the evening.

The evening was packed with energy as attendees were treated to a buffet dinner provided by the club and music provided by the band Duo Oz and DJ Andrej Stolarik. Guests had a chance to win one of the lovely door prizes or tombola which consisted of many prizes ranging from Slovak Double Cross Vodka to a signed hockey stick by NHL superstar Marian Stastny. People were also able to enjoy a variety of drinks including Slivovica (Slovak plum brandy) and Zlaty Bazant (Slovak Premium Beer).

Duo Oz performed a wide range of Italian, Croatian and English songs covering all genre's0pp0p from folk, tango, slow dance and rock songs. The floor was packed from 9-12pm. After the band finished playing, DJ Andrej entertained the largely Slovak remaining crowd with an all Slovak Senzus set that had people dancing till just after 2am.
