2nd Annual Ottawa Oktoberfest Dinner and Dance - A SELL OUT!

The Special Events and Youth Committee of the Ottawa Branch of the Canadian Slovak League proudly report another very successful Oktoberfest (Dozinky) Dinner and Dance. We received incredible feedback from the event last year and decided to schedule the 2010 Oktoberfest Party On Saturday, October 2nd which was again a Sell Out! The hall was filled with 170 Slovaks and Friends to enjoy the great food and music.

With doors opening at 6 pm, the hall quickly started filling while Slovak music played in the background.. A fabulous dinner buffet was served at 7 pm and included Slovak traditional favourites such as Schnitzel, Sauerkraut, Kolbasa and of course Apple Strudel.

The Ambassador of the Slovak Republic, His Excellency Milan Kollar attended the Oktoberfest Dinner and Dance accompanied by his wife Sonja and daughter Zuzanna. The Ambassador introduced himself and mentioned that it was a great event and he was pleased to meet so many people in the Ottawa Slovak Community.

The evening proceeded with the drawing of fantastic door prizes that were donated by generous people in the community including the Slovak Embassy which provided a few beautiful gifts. The music was provided by the band Duo Oz and started by 9 pm and people danced past midnight enjoying themselves.

This year’s ticket sales were very quick and we urge people to always buy their tickets early because the event sells out. Mark your calendars for Saturday, Feb 12, 2011 when we are holding the next event in Ottawa which is our Mardi Gras (Fasiangy) Dinner and Dance. Last year this party was also a huge success and we have some special things planned for the next one. Ottawa Slovaks are clearly sending our committee a message that they want a venue where they can get together from time to time and we are happy to provide.

See you at Mardi Gras on Feb 12th!
