Welland Slovak Community

In Welland is one of the most active Slovak community in Canada that is a hub also for the surrounding area, as in the Niagara Falls region live more than 2,500 Slovaks.

Rich history of Slovaks in Welland notes that for many years a regular Slovak radio program was broadcast from there, and today the City of Welland recognizes the positive and important contributions of the Slovaks to the whole community. Branch 23 is the strongest CSL Branch, with most members.

Popular events

There are several, throughout the year. In summer, the favourite is the Slovak Day that Welland Branch co-organizes with the neighbouring branches; as well as dance groups performances. Branch leadership also organizes exhibition about Slovakia as a support for the members of the Army of the Slovak Republic when they train at the Borden military base north of Toronto.

Churches
Holy Ghost Slovak Greek Catholic Church served for many years the spiritual needs of its Parich as well as a broader community. At the moment, the Church services are temporarily suspended and we hope that they will resune soon. Info link is: http://niagara.cioc.ca/record/NIA0764

Slovak Folk Dance Group Bratislava Dancers successfully performed since 1996 not only for the Slovak community but also in the whole Niagara Peninsula area. In Welland, all Slovaks feel at home, since 1923. Welcome among us.
